Jakar to Trongsa
Today we toured one of Bhutan’s best museums, the Royal Museum inside a former watch tower in Trongsa. This museum includes some of the best examples of artwork from all the temples in the country as well as pieces from the royal family archives including the raven crown worn by the first four kings for their coronation. The current king wore an updated version. The museum itself is the best one in Bhutan having been renovated recently. The view from the very top of the watch tower explains why it was such an important site to protect the country, and is also another beautiful viewpoint to appreciate the splendor of this landscape.
Trongsa Dzong
This is one enormous dzong which we’ve always enjoyed photographing. Unfortunately it is being occupied not only by the important governmental offices of the region as well as one of the largest monastic bodies, but it is also home to a large group of macaque monkeys. At first they are fun to watch, but as they try to make this dzong their home they are clearly becoming a nuisance.
