Dumplings and Shopping
Today we visited the Thimpu markets where locally produced grains, rice, vegetables, fruits and dried fish are sold in clean stalls under an open-air, two-story pavilion. Across the river we purchased other goods where sellers displayed antiques, metal goods, and handicrafts. A few of us snuck into a tiny momo shop for the steamed dumplings served with hot chili sauce. We loved them!
Big Buddha
Overlooking Thimpu, is the world’s largest Buddha, and the sheer size of it is humbling. Bhutan is hoping it will one day be recognized as one of eight wonders of the world. For now, it is wonderful place to view the Thimpu valley, and from the city this large statue seems to smile on Bhutan’s national capital.
Pizza!
Even though we enjoyed all our traditional meals here, getting a real pizza was a welcome diversion. There’s a wonderful pizza place in Thimpu that locals and tourists both enjoy, and we were no exception.
