The Big Easy Photo Tour Itinerary

October 6 – 9, 2023

New Orleans, aka the Big Easy. – renowned for friendly vibes and a rollicking nightlife is resplendent with unique photo opportunities. Join me and Boston photographer Lou Jones for a series of adventures in the French Quarter, down Bourbon Street, on a swamp tour and much more. Lou will share his secrets for creating Magic Blue skies at sunset, as well as creating provocative street portraits and cityscapes. For the early-risers, you may meet Lou for sunrise photos before breakfast. Together we will haunt the night clubs, sample the well-know local food, ride the streetcar and have an awesome great time.

Friday – Arrive Mid-Day

Check-in to Hotel St. Pierre in the French Quarter. Our tour starts with lunch at Killer Po Boys. From here we go on a walking tour of historical Congo Square and Armstrong Park where we can expect to find musicians and performers in a picturesque setting. Dinner at Cane and Table, with an evening on Bourbon Street and a literal behind-the-scenes detour to a cool nighttime photo location.

Saturday in the French Quarter

After breakfast explore Bourbon Street before the crowds arrive, detour through Pirates Alley and visit Jackson Square. Mid-morning will include a tour of the Gallery for Fine Art Photography, a walk on Royal Street and lunch at Vacherie. In the afternoon, ride the streetcar to explore Greenwood cemetary, stopping along the way for coffee or cocktails. Dinner at Chickie Way Way includes musical entertainment.

Sunday –Regional Louisiana

After breakfast depart for a tour of Laura Plantation. Models will join us for photos under the large oak trees. Sit among the locals for a Cajun lunch before our airboat tour of Louisiana swamps. Be on the lookout for alligators and other bayou wildlife.   

This evening Lou will share his secrets for shooting Magic Blue skies over New Orleans from Algiers Point. Take a short ferry ride back to the French Quarter.

Monday – Departure day

Tour the unusual St. Roche cemetary, including the shrine filled with body part replicas offered in gratitude to St. Roch for healing. Lunch at St. Roch Market before departure.
