Utah 2014

The Arches National Park boasts the highest concentration of natural arches in the world, as well as a stunning display of sandstone fins, balanced rocks, and petrified sand dunes. These mystical formations, which are both delicate and massive, are located on a high plateau, which allows them to catch the earliest light of morning and the last light of evening. The reddish Entrada sandstone from which most of the formations are eroded glows with an almost unbelievable brightness in the low western sun.

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAThis elegant description describes the sites that await us in Utah April 24-27. Meet our guide, Branson Reynolds, who penned these words and shared some of his spectacular images for inspiration. We originally hoped to visit the slot canyons, but after consultation with Branson, decided it was too much to do in our time frame. We’ve planned an excellent trip with visits to some of the best places for sunrise and sunset shooting each day, plus time to work together on the images in-between.

Itinerary in Brief

Thu., April 24 – Fly to Salt Lake City, Utah. Pick up rental SUV and drive to Moab. Meet our guide, Branson Reynolds at Aarchway Inn. Afternoon shoot at Double-O Arch, Garden of Eden. Sunset shoot at Balanced Rock. All in Arches National Park.

Fri., April 25 – Very early wake-up call  at o’dark hundred to perfect sunrise site to photograph Mesa Arch. Depending on the weather we might also include the Green River overlook. These are both in the Islands in the Sky region of Canyonlands National Park. Sunset at Delicate Arch, in Arches National Park.

Sat., April 26 – Sunrise: Dead Horse Point State Park. Sunset: Sandstone Fins and the Fiery Furnace in Arches National Park

Sun., April 27 – Courthouse Towers in Arches National Park. Return to Salt Lake City to return home.

Between the sunrise and sunset shoots this weekend, we’ll return to the hotel for a late breakfast and the opportunity to work with Branson on processing the files, or you may choose to nap or explore Moab on your own. There’s also a car show in Moab that weekend. along-20the-20Colorado-20River-20-2
